Aadhaar Link: In today’s digital era, the need for proper documentation for any official or private procedure in India has grown tremendously. Whether it’s school enrollment, applying for a passport, or accessing government welfare programs, valid identity proof is required everywhere. To simplify these tasks, a new initiative has been introduced to link a child’s Birth Certificate with their Aadhaar Card. The main purpose of this step is to establish a clear and unified identity record for every child from the moment they are born.

Why is the Government Combining These Documents?

Earlier, parents had to request a Birth Certificate and Aadhaar Card separately for their children, and then deal with the additional step of linking them later. With the updated system, both documents can now be handled through a single integrated process. This minimizes the effort of filling out multiple forms and avoids repeatedly submitting the same information for future government-related work. This move aims to boost administrative transparency and save valuable time for citizens.

Process for Newborn Babies

For infants, the linking procedure starts directly at the hospital. Here’s how it works:
Data Entry: After delivery, hospital staff send the newborn’s details to the registration office, where the information is uploaded to the online CRS (Civil Registration System) portal.
Registration Details: The child’s name, date and time of birth, gender, and parents’ information are entered into the system.
Aadhaar Option: Under the updated process, Aadhaar enrollment can begin from the same point. Since capturing biometrics for newborns is not possible, a provisional Aadhaar number is issued first.
Automatic Linking: Parents must enter their Aadhaar numbers and address on the portal. If all details match correctly, the Birth Certificate and Aadhaar are linked automatically. Because the method is entirely digital, there is no need to wait in long lines.

How to Link Existing Birth Certificates Online?

If your child is older or already has both a Birth Certificate and Aadhaar Card, the linking process remains simple and can be done online. Follow these steps:
Visit the official Civil Registration System website.
Create an account through the ‘General Public Signup’ option.
Log in and go to the ‘Birth Registration’ section.
Choose the ‘Aadhaar Link’ feature.
Enter the Birth Registration Number, Aadhaar Number, and the OTP sent to your mobile.
If the information matches, the documents will be linked instantly.

What to Do if the Information Doesn’t Match?

Sometimes, there may be differences between the details on the Aadhaar Card and the Birth Certificate. If the records do not align, you must correct the discrepancies before linking. Usually, the Birth Certificate is updated first. In certain states, these corrections can also be made at UIDAI service centers.

Benefits of Linking

Connecting the Birth Certificate with Aadhaar provides several benefits:

School Admissions: It makes the admission process easier.

Government Schemes: It helps in accessing various welfare programs without hassle.

Passport and Insurance: Verification for passports, insurance, and other official tasks becomes quicker and smoother.

This digital reform is expected to significantly reduce inconvenience for citizens and ensure that government services become more efficient, accessible, and transparent in the coming years.
